Building a rescue organization is no easy task, my wife and I have been working on getting WDR up and running for almost a year now. The first thing we were able to figure out very early on in the process was the fact that we needed to reach out to existing groups and build a relationship with them.
Every group that we've spoken with and/or reached out to has a unique story and reason for helping to rescue dogs. Some specialize in breeds, others specialize in medical cases, some just do whatever they can to help the "next dog".
WDR falls into the last category - we want to do whatever we're able to do for the "next dog" and that is the second thing we've come to understand - there is always a "next dog". We can't save them all so we do what we can for as many dogs as possible.
Below is a list of groups and organizations that we work with and that help WDR continue to grow. We are very thankful for all their efforts/advice and we look forward to continuing to help rescue the "next dog" together.
Williamson County Animal Control
We live in Williamson County Tennessee, which is directly south of Nashville, TN (adjoining counties). We feel truly grateful to have the animal shelter that we do. The people that make the place run do a tremendous job. I'm sure you've all heard a scary story about a shelter that abuses animals or ones that are quick to put a animal down. I can say after working with WCAC and volunteering in their shelter it is a top shelf organization. The people are dedicated 100% to helping all animals in need, not just dogs and cats.
The WCAC is where we get a number of dogs that come through our home - we hope to continue to grow our relationship with them.
Eleventh Hour Rescue
As some of you know we used to live in NJ. That is where our dog rescue efforts began and especially because of EHR. My wife volunteered with this group and also fostered dogs for them... second dog that came through our home never left - we became a "foster failure" and were addited to helping dogs all in one shot.
Today WDR is working on the sending end of the equation - we are saving dogs from TN, where pet overpopulation is a real problem, and sending them to Eleventh Hour. They do a great job helping us find homes for these dogs in need.
