Moxie Went Camping in a Canoe

"I just got back from what they call a vacation. I went in a canoe, I did not want to get in but as you see I did not want to get out. I went swimming and exploring. We had Bacon everyday, John snuck it at breakfast and brought it back, there is a photo of me and Marley gathering around him.  It was a long ride all the way to Nova Scotia but as you see I traded my crate for a bed. We hiked, swam, slept and traveled in a canoe. We did not see any bears but we did smell a skunk. I had to chase the squirels away.

Thank you for finding the Fertigs."

Letter from CoCo Moxie's new Cat friend

"Hi Wilsons,

I am the cat CoCo.  Moxie aka Jackie showed up at the house about 6 weeks ago, she was well received by all. Marley (the brown lab) and I were the most cordial. The two feral cats actually showed up to receive her.  This is most out of character.

Moxie has found her way into the hearts of the Fertigs and their beds. She still retreats to her crate by day but once out in the evening she is either on the couch or on a bed. Rockie the cat shares a pillow with her in bed.

Moxie has not resumed her Ball game but has picked up swimming and watching ice hockey.  I think this is because the Carolina team was making a run for it. Moxie’s favorite friend in the family is, me, CoCo.  I too am a rescue as my previous family had dark colored furniture and rugs and could not stand the shedding.  Jane and John do not seem to mind this as their vacuum, a Hoover, seems to work overtime.  Perhaps they are making a commercial.

Moxie has met all the grown children and only grandchild and seems to have wormed her way in to their hearts.

She has tried swimming in the Ocean with success and she has mastered the parameters of the yard.  She and Marley (our chocolate lab age 8) trot around the yard in search of new smells and maybe a deer, rabbit or opossum.  They have not actually come face to face with any of these.

Moxie learned her new name and parameters of the yard quickly.  She definitely wants to fit in to this family and has. Jane is amazed that anyone would want to relinquish such a fine dog but she is so happy that they did. Moxie has fit in to our family and life style.

One extra Avery, the granddaughter was greeted by Moxie with a kiss. Avery’s mother was impressed at how gentle Moxie was. Her mother is a cat person and thought that a new dog might eat her young, obviously ridiculous.

I am attaching photos, use what you want, and enjoy the others. We love Moxie and are so very glad she is part of our family.

Jackie - Now Known as Moxie

Moxi has been with us about 2 weeks. She is settling in.  She actually seems to have found a best friend in our very fluffy Himalayan cat, Coco. Last weekend Moxie came down with Kennel cough and sounded much like a goose. But antibiotics seemed to help her and she is quite happy.  She does not bark, did you notice this? Marley her older sister seems to take up the cause and bark for 2 but we keep thinking she will speak up on her own. Moxie has adapted to her new name which I suspect she associates with a dog biscuit but this is OK. The crate is reserved for days, nights are spent on a human bed with human warmth or so the excuse goes. The human surrounded by dogs may object come summer but human and cat, Rockie seem quite happy for the extra warmth as we are having an unusually cold May. Moxie has not gotten back to her ball game. I keep telling her that Spring training is over and she must show her stuff or be traded but she seems content to chew a bone, rawhide, snuggle with a human and watch a hockey game. Ball may be a summer sport. We have not taken her to a pond for swimming lessons as it has not been very warm but we hope she will take to the water.

Thank you so very much for loving her when her luck was down and out. I will send a photo of her in one of her favorite spots!  I need to download them from my camera. Please stay in touch you have given us a wonder addition to our family.
